Library skills for English 1112 online: Introduction

Library Research

Library, online or in person

The Clark State Library can help you advance your research skills, which is one of the goals of English 1112.  This guide assumes you have completed English 1111, however you can review the research skills from that class at the online guide for English 1111. In English 1111 you learned how to find book sources and how to use Opposing Viewpoints in Context.  You may also access those tools from the English research guide.

In English 1112 you will be doing a long piece of research.  To support your research, this guide will teach you

  • how to use AND, OR, and NOT to fine tune your search for articles
  • the difference between types of articles: scholarly, popular, and trade
  • how to move beyond a general database search for articles to a search targeting articles in different areas of research

Click through each tab in this guide and read the information on each page.  Watch the short videos to see the research tools in action.  Contact a librarian at any time to ask questions or clarify information. Contact information is in the box below. You are welcome at college and university libraries across Ohio through our OhioLINK partnership. To find an academic library near you check the OhioLINK map.
