Open Textbook Collections

Merlot
A large collection of resources, with search features that allow you to choose the level of material, topic, and the material type of the textbook. Both cost and currency of the textbooks are dependent upon the subject area.
The National Academies Press
Unlike some of the open textbook initiatives, these books are publicly available but not openly licensed. You can link to the content and even link directly to specific pages. However, you cannot remix and redistribute the content.
OER Commons
Offers a wide range of materials for K-12, college, and adult education. A search feature allows the grade level to be specified. Courses with discussion materials are available as well as individual textbooks, many of which come from the Saylor Foundation.
OpenCourse Library
OER course materials, with some textbooks at a cost, from Washington state community and technical colleges. Course materials for 80+ high enrollment courses are offered as well.
Open Education Consortium
Offers OER course materials for higher education. This site is more international than some of the other OER sites.
Open Learning Initiative
Offers materials from Carnegie Mellon University. Full access to most resources requires a free instructor account. This site contains more course materials than open textbooks.
OpenStax
A collection of textbooks and additional learning resources. It offers not only a smaller number of full textbooks but also a large amount of high quality and discrete learning materials from K-12 through higher education.
Open Textbook Library
Offers high quality textbooks, most at no cost, from the University of Minnesota, authored by academic institutions throughout the U.S.
Project Gutenberg
A volunteer effort to digitize and archive cultural works. Most items in this collection are digitized works from the public domain, making it a rich source for those in the humanities.
